Set in the beautiful surroundings of the lower Garhwal Himalaya, this program offers students a unique opportunity to interact with nature, explore their creativity through ceramics and participate in a variety of exciting outdoor activities!
We have run this course for the following
- American Embassy School, New Delhi – 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019
- American International School, Chennai – 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018
Summary of the program:
- A five to seven day program for High-school students combining Ceramics and outdoor/cultural activities
- Typical group size 12 to 20 students (plus chaperones)
- Offered between October and March
- Typical day = most of the day working on ceramics and one outdoor/cultural activity
- Each student comes away with 5 to 7 completed ceramic pieces made by her/him
- Students are instructed in hand-building, wheel work and also participate in an “alternative firing” process
- Venue for the sessions is a resort called Atali Ganga, 30 kms from Rishikesh. Easily accessible by:
- Train to Haridwar or Dehradun
- Air to Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun
- Road from New Delhi
- Two types of accommodation offered to suit different learning objectives / budgets
- Fixed tents at Camp Aquaterra with flush toilets (twin sharing for students)
- Air-conditioned rooms with attached bathrooms at Atali Ganga (triple sharing for students)
The duration and course content/structure are customised to meet the specific goals of the school. We have a ‘menu’ of activities the school administration can use to design the program such that it meet the learning objectives for their group of students. These activities include a mix of medium/intermediate level adventure activities, soft adventure activities as well as some cultural options specific to the Garhwal region in which the course is being conducted.
